ROAR

Roadsters Over America Proxy Race

The Ring

Mississauga, ON, CANADA

June, 2016

A marvel of technology - the great airship facilitates speedy delivery of the ROAR entries to The Ring from a land far away. Only high winds or unseasonal weather could delay or impede the ship from docking, none of which were forecast. Captain Hermann Blitzenburg and his entire crew would enjoy a tour of The Ring later in the evening while his great airship was re-supplied.

The package containing all ROAR entries arrived from the port drop point to track headquarters via the people's choice of transportation. Here Fritz Stroebl shouts further instructions to the driver to ensure safe delivery.

Every arrival was assigned a pit lane stall. Maintenance and repair work areas within the pit lane were to be shared among five or six entries while additional space in an adjoining field was  made available for those needing to make repairs overnight. The field also provides parking for team transporters and caravans. As is the case with any proxy car arriving at the Ring before any car makes its way onto the track it will be both inspected with routine maintenance performed and checked to ensure it does not jeopardize the integrity and operation of the track.

Technical Inspection

Prior to the open practice session every entrant was encouraged to lap the circuit to familiarize themselves with sight lines, braking points and track conditions. At completion every entrant lined up to wait their turn to undergo routine inspection of their car, including motor, tires and safety equipment.

After every entrant completed a reconnaissance lap they lined up for inspection. Policing the procedure with his personal firing squad was assistant race director Franz Klammer together with his mechanical staff. Tight and orderly control was maintained over every participant by the disciplined staff.

Free Practice

One of our photographers captured every entrant as they sped on towards turn 3 - note the waved yellow on the approach as crews cleaned up debris from an off track experience in an earlier support race...

Qualifying

Random draw would determine qualifying order. All qualifiers had one minute on the centre lane and fastest laps of each would determine rotation order for the race. Ring director Fritz Stroebl would qualify every entrant. Some entries could have benefited with a longer qualifying run as tires/motors/lubricants took a little longer to warm up for some. No cars were warmed up prior to their qualifying run - all started at room/track temperature.

The green flag waved for our first qualifier as photographers did their best to capture the every moment.
